I seek to inspire wonder and a deeper appreciation for nature’s elegance.

“Sun Bleached bones are most wonderful against the blue sky, that blue will always be there, as it is now, after all men’s destruction is finished.”
– Geogia O’Keeffe
Cave Creek artist Kathy Immekus knows about that blue in the sky from her travels through the Southwest. It has also heavily influenced her creativity, perspective, and commitment is her philosophy of "Repurpose, Reuse, Recycle".
Growing up in northern Illinois and Southern Wisconsin, Immekus is transfixed by the vast space, vibrant colors, diverse textures, as well as the light and shadows of the desert regions. She was captivated with the region; just as fellow Wisconsin native Georgia O’Keeffe was many Years ago.
Immekus worked in the Automotive industry for over 20 years, she credits this experience with developing her artistic side. “It was a stressful position, at that time, so I used art as therapy to unwind. I could listen to great music or create something beautiful to shed the trouble of the day and just relax.”
Immekus identifies as a self-taught artist, and an inspired one at that. She came to repurposing animal skulls out of her passion for reusing items that quite literally come her way. Over a period, she collected paint, feathers, beads, and leathers for other mediums she was working on, so when the opportunity presented itself to change the surface of her work, she moved with Immekus believes, “I find the materials guide the process of what ‘they’ would “become” next.
